Making an unfamiliar habitat system feel tangible

Blue Marble Structures is a Boston-based space technology company developing patented deployable spherical structures for space and other extreme environments. The project focused on the visual communication and presentation materials for a proposal to NASA’s Habitation Systems Development Office, showing how the technology could support future habitats on the Moon, Mars, in orbit and on Earth.

SELECTED WORK

A deliberately limited view

Due to a non-disclosure agreement, this case study presents only selected stills from the animation.

CHALLENGE

Engineering accuracy without losing the story

Engineering accuracy without losing the story

Engineering accuracy without losing the story

The technology was highly innovative but technically complex. The challenge was to communicate its value, deployment process and range of applications through a compelling visual narrative—balancing engineering accuracy with clarity for senior NASA stakeholders.

01 Explain the deployment process

02 Show credible human scale

03 Connect one system to multiple environments

SOLUTION

A cinematic system for explaining the system

A cinematic system for explaining the system

I led the creative direction for the proposal, defining how the concept should be communicated through presentation design and cinematic 3D animation. The work included the pitch deck, high-fidelity animation and a visual language that translated complex engineering concepts into an engaging, easy-to-understand story.

Presented directly to NASA’s habitation team

The proposal was presented directly to NASA’s Habitation Systems Development Office. I also participated in presenting the concept, communicating the vision and technical capabilities of Blue Marble Structures’ patented deployable habitat technology for future lunar, Martian, orbital and terrestrial applications.

From concept to conversation

The design work gave a patented engineering concept a coherent narrative, a credible visual world and a presentation format built for decision-makers.
